In one of my previous posts I have briefly talked about one of the biggest obstacles that you will have to face while chasing your dreams: people.
Since we are social animals, our lives rotate around people all the time: family, friends, partners, colleagues, acquaintances and so forth. So it is logical to think that whoever we surround ourselves with, affect us. Just as we affect them.
When you are on a path of self-discovery, growth and change, the people around you play an even more important role than any other times of your life. These people can influence your mood, your drive, your purpose and ultimately, your success.
Since we are little toddlers, our basic tool of learning is imitation. We want to do what mom and dad does. And as we grow older, we want to do what our friends do. In our digital age, we all wanted to be like that famous superstar that we follow and so deeply admire. So it is not unlikely to understand that as an adult, we can become like the people we hang out with.
We all know that unfortunately so many talented young people around the world, lose opportunities every day because they are in the “wrong circles”. They do not have access to the right mindset people to nurture their qualities and push them to be better and chase their potential. For me, it is all down to education and to the people we surround ourselves with.
As we grow up, “it is so important to spend time with the people we want to become like”. The power that comes from nurturing a relationship with a role model is very important even when we grow older. The power of learning through imitation doesn’t stop at the age of 6. I remember one of my bosses once told me “If you want to be a director, you need to start to dress like one, act like one, think like one”. Even before you had the official title.
“We become like the people we spend more time with”. Energy is a powerful source that transmits from a person to another, whether we are aware of it or not. The moment you are around “the right kind of people”, you will feel that you body automatically reacts to it: you smile, your brain works better, bouncing off ideas, your vision for the future becomes clearer and more hopeful, you feel both powerful and empowered, you feel energetic. You feel strong.
“If you are going to be successful, you have to start hanging out with successful people. You need to ask them to share your success strategies with you. Then try them on and see if they fit for you. Experiment with doing what they do, reading what they read, thinking the way they think”.
Any type of behavior attracts the same behavior in return. If you approach a problem angrily, you will get an angry response. If you react to a situation in a negative way, you will most probably receive a negative outcome in return. Energies attract each other and bounce back the same response that they have received. So successful people attract the same caliber of people like a magnet.
If you want to be in the right mindset, with the right energy, purpose and drive to chase your dreams, the people you surround yourself with, will have a great impact on the outcome. So chose well and wisely. Surround yourself with successful people.
