Do you have goals? Do you have to-do lists?
Do you procrastinate? Or get things done?
Do you have a clear idea about what you want? or no clue at all?
I have read A LOT of books during lockdown in regards to this topic. The main reason for choosing this particular type of read is connected to my quest for answers and clarity in regards to my professional life, as mentioned in the posts before.

This is my “special shelf” in my room where I keep those books that triggered my search for answers and personal and professional path discovery.
Ken Robinson’s “Finding your element” comes with a lot of exercises that are meant to make you think about who you are, what you really want, and how to map out the outcome of your findings.
My personal favorite is though, Jack Canfield’s “How to get from where you are from where you want to be”. Much more to the point, full of exercises that force you to get pen and paper out, pushing you to put everything into a new light.
As mentioned before, there is A LOT I want to do, I often start things and do not finish them, I have a million lists ( places I want to visit, things I want to learn, stuff I want to buy, books I want to read, restaurants that I want to visit, friends that I want to meet up with, and so on.. ) so I recently took out my favorite book, “How to get from where you are to where you want to be”, I got myself a pretty notebook and colorful pens, and I started doing the homework.
Trust me, it’s hard work. I had to go back again to it more than once because I wasn’t able to complete some of the lists. So I had to work on it multiple times to reach a level that I was happy with. And it is still work in progress to this date.
Let me give you an example of some of the “homework” on this book:
- 30 things you really want
- 20 things you love to do
- 101 goals
- What are you good at?
- What are you passionate about?
- What you don’t like
- What are your non-negotiables in your professional life
I used the last 4 points to help me prepare for my first career coaching session and was a great conversation starter with my coach.
The first 2, against common sense, where actually harder than I thought…Imagine you need to dig into your mind and into your heart and actually put down on paper 30 things you really want and 20 things you love to do…it’s not as easy at it sounds. One would think otherwise, but I challenge you to make your own list and let me know how hard it actually was.
Don’t even get me started on the 101 goals list…I only got 7 down so far that I am actually able to achieve.
I am trying to shift my thoughts into behavior and actions, finding something that I can really commit to, starting from the “easy ones” that I know I can complete in order to boost my own self-confidence, and the plan is to add intensity as I go along.
The ultimate aim is to find 3 main goals and 2 super goals: one that stretches you out our comfort zone and one that will represent your “breakthrough”, leading you onto the path that you are supposed to walk on, to go from where you are to where you want to be.
Let’s talk about goals…What are yours?
Well done Mon! I’m sure it wasn’t easy, proud of you.
